Louis Vuitton release David Mancuso The Loft party-inspired collection

Louis Vuitton’s pre-spring 2023 collection is reportedly inspired by David Mancuso — the legendary 70s DJ at New York’s The Loft parties.

Named "Fall In Love," the collection was originally conceived by Virgil Abloh and is now finally taking to the runway including a mixture of footwear to activewear.

The Loft was a famous New York venue that opened in 1970 — bringing underground parties to the Big Apple, with DJ David Mancuso’s first night, Love Will Save The Day.

These invite-only listening parties became iconic in the city for their inclusivity, disco and fashion. Famously non-commercial, no alcohol, beverages or food were sold.

DJ and Men’s Fashion Director at LV, Virgil Abloh, explored in this collection how DJs and designers can influence fashion and music by working in harmony.

Abloh never had the opportunity to finish this collection, therefore the Louis Vuitton team helped finalise it.

Known as one of the first ever underground DJs, David Mancuso passed away aged 72 in 2016.

When the news of Mancuso’s death was released, iconic DJs and friends paid their respects including Kerri Chandler who said: “I'm at a loss for words, thank you for showing me how it's done.”

In January, Virgil Abloh’s Men’s Fall/Winter 2022 for Louis Vuitton was presented as part of Paris Fashion Week in tribute to himself after passing away of cancer in November aged just 41.

His last show was built around the concept of the "Louis' Dreamhouse" and broke the gender norms of masculinity in the designs by including dresses and skirts to the men’s collection.
